Karapoti Through The Eyes Of A First Timer
Sorry I’ve been a bit quiet since Karapoti - I’ve been pretty busy with study and have spent the last week here in Nelson in preparation for Oceania Champs. Gav and I came down on Sunday and have been staying with Chris and Bob. The hill climb was today - Gav won men’s and Bob won women’s (I’m not sure I’m worthy of being in the same house with these Oceania hill climb champs!). I didn’t go to watch as Kaytee and I had gone out early for a lap and were having a bike cleaning session with Sam and Connor. But everyone is all ready to go for the XC race tomorrow. The course is killer thanks to some pretty relentless climbing. Nothing really technical except for one small section of an old dh course, before another short but very tough climb, some fun single track switchbacks down again and then one final short but tough climb before the start/finish. And that’s all after a LOT of climbing at the start…
But what I really wanted to post up was this link - a mate of mine from Canberra was here for the Nduro 24 hour and Karapoti and has done a fantastic write up. They sure don’t have hills like that in Canberra… Happy reading, and I’ll post again shortly with the Oceania race report (ooooh, Oce’s! …)
